Originally built in the 1920s as a 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath home, this historic residence had previously been expanded with an addition completed in the late 2000s. While the home offered generous living space, it required a comprehensive renovation to improve functionality, modernize the interior, and address several structural and mechanical challenges.
Designed by Adam Stillman, this full-home renovation transformed the property into a thoughtfully designed 5-bedroom, 4.5-bath home that beautifully blends historic character with modern living.
The project included the construction of a new basement featuring a private home office, fitness room, guest bedroom, and full bathroom, as well as a spacious screened porch with an outdoor fireplace that seamlessly extends the home's living space. To better accommodate visiting family, we also converted the existing main-level guest bedroom into a true guest suite by adding a private ensuite bathroom, creating a comfortable retreat for the homeowners' in-laws and overnight guests.
Throughout the renovation, our team carefully preserved the architectural details that make this home unique, including four original decorative fireplaces and the existing hardwood flooring. The original hardwoods were professionally refinished, and new hardwood flooring was feathered into the existing floors to create a seamless transition throughout the home.
Behind the walls, extensive improvements were required to bring the home up to today's standards. Our team reframed numerous areas affected by wood rot, installed additional insulation to improve energy efficiency, upgraded the home's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and encapsulated and waterproofed both the existing crawlspace and the newly constructed basement to ensure long-term durability and performance.
The result is a home that honors its nearly 100-year history while providing the comfort, efficiency, and functionality expected of a modern luxury residence.

Cosmetic Kitchen Refresh
Neighborhood: Morningside, Atlanta, Georgia | Project Timeline 8 Weeks
Sometimes the most impactful renovations aren't about adding square footage. They're about reimagining a space so it functions beautifully and feels like it always should have.
This Morningside kitchen featured dated honey oak cabinetry, a bar height two tiered island, a corner cabinet, and no kitchen backsplash. .While the kitchen was functional, the layout no longer reflected the homeowners' style or the way they wanted to live.
One design element, in particular, had bothered the homeowners from the day they moved in. The range was not centered on the island, making the kitchen feel visually unbalanced and interrupting the natural flow of the space.
Our team completely reimagined the layout while maintaining the existing footprint. By removing the two-tier island, eliminating the outdated corner cabinet, relocating the refrigerator, and redesigning the cabinetry, we created a clean, open layout centered around a beautiful new island. The range now serves as the focal point of the kitchen, creating the symmetry and functionality the homeowners had envisioned from the beginning.
One of the biggest design decisions was closing two existing windows. While that may sound counterintuitive, doing so allowed us to relocate the refrigerator to a much more functional location and dramatically improve the overall layout. The result is a kitchen that feels larger, flows better, has more storage, and functions more efficiently despite having fewer windows.
To further elevate the space, we carried the backsplash tile all the way to the ceiling, drawing the eye upward and creating the illusion of taller ceilings. We also removed the plantation shutters to maximize natural light and create a cleaner, more contemporary aesthetic.
Finishing touches, including a pot filler above the range, completed the space by adding both beauty and everyday functionality.
The finished result is a timeless, light-filled kitchen that feels larger, functions better, and complements the character of the home. This project is a perfect example of how thoughtful design and strategic planning can completely transform a space without adding square footage.
Kitchen & Bath Renovation with Addition

Located in the heart of Historic Brookwood Hills, this renovation transformed a cramped galley kitchen into the spacious, functional heart of the home. The original kitchen offered very little storage, lacked space for an island, and felt disconnected from the way the homeowners wanted to live and entertain.
To maximize both functionality and flow, our team expanded the width of the home by bumping out the exterior wall, creating enough space for a large center island and a professional-grade 48-inch range. We also closed one of the existing kitchen entryways, allowing for significantly more cabinetry and storage without compromising the home's circulation. The result is a bright, open kitchen that feels as though it has always been part of the original home while providing the modern conveniences today's homeowners expect.
The project also included a beautifully renovated primary bathroom and thoughtfully selected finishes throughout, creating a cohesive design that blends timeless elegance with everyday functionality. This transformation is a perfect example of how strategic design and careful planning can dramatically improve the way a home lives without sacrificing its historic charm.

Designed by architect Mike DeCarlo with interior selections curated by Carl Mattison Design, this custom home was thoughtfully created to blend timeless architecture with modern luxury. This custom new construction home in Oakhurst is proof that thoughtful design and careful planning can maximize even the most challenging homesites. Situated along busy East Lake Drive, this 6-bedroom, 5-bath residence offers 3,019 square feet of beautifully designed living space, complete with a drive-under two-car garage. While space was limited, strategic planning and creative problem-solving allowed us to deliver a home that is both highly functional and architecturally striking.
Designed by Brant Goodman of Goodman Design, Inc., the home showcases timeless architectural details, with graceful arches serving as a defining feature throughout the design. We loved bringing the homeowners' fun, creative style to life, collaborating on finishes and details that make this home feel both elegant and uniquely personal.
As an EarthCraft Certified home, it was built with energy efficiency, sustainability, and long-term performance in mind, offering the homeowners the benefits of healthier indoor living and lower operating costs without compromising on design.
